Gaura: A festival of happiness
Gaura is one of the festivals celebrated by Hindu people, especially from the Far western and western region of Nepal. It is usually celebrated in the month of August/September. In this festival, Women worship the goddess Parbati (Wife of Shiva) praying for their husbands' health and prosperity. The festival starts with Biruda Panchami. On this day women submerse five different kinds of cereals. Also, they use the same cereals as a way of blessing for their husband and children and for worshipping in a temple.
Deuda dance and songs are another major part of this festival. People sing and synchronize it with dance. There is a specific dance for man, woman, and also for both. They circle around and coordinate their legs front and back. It is played in a way of competition where two groups sing the Deuda song back and fort. Also, traditional instruments are also another part of the Deuda festival. There are mainly three kinds of instruments. One is called as Damaha(A drum-like equipment made with leather and wood), Tyamka(a smaller version of Damaha), and Sahanai(a blowing musical instrument like a flute but made of metal).
Furthermore, One of the other important ritual is the occasion when married women put on the Sacred thread. Women put on new clothes mainly Sari. People go their holy temples to worship God and pray for their health and wealth. Also, there is a public holiday in the region where it is celebrated.
