How CIE graded the A levels results? My personal view.

This is only applicable for A2 students
CAIE

You may think who am I to have a view on this matter so I also received A2 predicted results and by talking with my friends and teachers about the result I came up with two things how cie graded the result and what the college impacted on it.

Altough many of the students had a very bad week even some of my friends had bad results but my grade were really good. I got straight 'a' in As with over 90 uniform percentile marks on the 4 A levels I sit during O/N 19 session so I was expecting 4A* and that is what I got. And the subjects were Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science and Maths.

So let's come directly to point. How did Cambridge really graded the students.

1. The most important thing they viewed during awarding grades was Institutions past history mainly the past 2 years. How can I say that? our college has produced a world topper in CS and national topper in physics, chemistry in the June 19 session and there were a lot A* in A small sample size. Almost 15A* and 30As in the sample of 40 students. That's how we were benefitted, institutions with smaller sample size but high volume A* were given good grades.

2. The another important thing especially for A2 students was the candidates AS level results. It was after the 1st point was justified. And then comes the ranking send by the teacher.

Let's Assume there are 50 students in college and they had a good history in results with over 20 A* the past session. So There are 3 students X, Y, Z. And let's take a example of a subject maths. X has achieved  'a', Y and Z has achieved 'b'. And teacher has predicted a grade above than they got like B to A. So in this small sample size and good history the teachers prediction will be awarded.

And let's assume another point of view. There are over 200 students in an institution and there oast history is same as the first college I mentioned above. But the sample size is big so the same X, Y, Z students will get a grade lowerd by 1 or even 2 and 3 steps.

The grades that are lowered are mainly of Lower A and B students because their results are hardest to predict. Because a student who get B or Lower A in AS can get A* or even D in their A level result but The higher A and C, D, E students doesn't deviate from their As result. And that's what happened in this case too.

Note : This is my personal belief you might not want agree with me. Comments are well appreciated.

Here is my result

NEB vs A level

Difference between NEB +2 board and CIE A levels - In +2 you can either choose science stream or any other stream or you are not allowed to took science and no science courses together and even some sciences are not allowed together like Biology and Computer Science but in A levels you can combine any sort of subjects.  - In A levels sciences practical exams are also highly important as you have to give your practical exams in your centre and its strictly monitored not as +2 where you perform practicals at your own college and teacher sends your marks and one thing you should know that cheating in A levels is like catching fish with your hand in river.      - There are only few colleges where you can study A levels and most of them are inside Kathmandu Valley and only few are in pokhara and one each in chitwan, butwal and biratnagar so there are fewer choices for you but there are thousands of +2 colleges in Nepal.  - A level exam is way vigo...

How should you start your college search?

Knowing your EFC and researching college   EFC which stands for Expected Family Contribution is a term that you will hear thousands of times while applying to universities especially if you are a student applying for financial aid.  EFC is the fixed amount of money your family is supposed to contribute to your college costs for one year. US universities are pretty expensive and for an average family, it is difficult to pay without taking loans.  However, US university education comes at a different range of prices. Columbia University in the City of Newyork, Uchicago. and Harvey Mudd College are some of the most expensive universities in the US with a sticker price of more than 80k dollars per year for tuition, room, and board. Brigham Young University’s three campuses are the cheapest with an annual tuition below 7000$. Also, you may find cheaper options at community colleges. Note: BYU-Provo is ranked inside the top 100 universities in the US.  Although EFC ...
