Difference between NEB +2 board and CIE A levels
- In +2 you can either choose science stream or any other stream or you are not allowed to took science and no science courses together and even some sciences are not allowed together like Biology and Computer Science but in A levels you can combine any sort of subjects.
- In A levels sciences practical exams are also highly important as you have to give your practical exams in your centre and its strictly monitored not as +2 where you perform practicals at your own college and teacher sends your marks and one thing you should know that cheating in A levels is like catching fish with your hand in river.
- There are only few colleges where you can study A levels and most of them are inside Kathmandu Valley and only few are in pokhara and one each in chitwan, butwal and biratnagar so there are fewer choices for you but there are thousands of +2 colleges in Nepal.
- A level exam is way vigorous than +2 let's take an example say you are giving exam of physics so in A levels you must attend 5 papers in order to complete full A levels 3 papers are in your AS (11th grade) And 2 of them in A2(12th grade) whereas you need to only give 2 papers in +2 I have not included practicals because they are fully dependent on teachers and college choice irrespective of your performance.
- You won't secure high marks in A level exam even if you have all kind of books with and resources with you during exams because the questions doesn't come from any kind of books as +2 whereas most of the questions checks your application of your knowledge so until you have understood the topic you won't get your marks whatever resources you use.
- The course content of A levels is not as vast as +2 so it would be difficult for you to compete in medical or engineering entrance examination only with your A levels course content as they are completely based on syllabus and structure of +2 board however you can crack it if you could take some more classes and it won't be hard for you
- Only few talented or researching students of +2 do get chance of participating in various extra curricular and creative activities but most of the A levels are making themselves busy by participating in different kind of activities.
- Some A level colleges provide 2 days leave in a week and you may think why? Because without self-study you can't resist pressure of A levels and you will not be able to perform good in exams by just memorising or taking tuitions in last hours.
- A levels is expensive average amount you may need to spend is between 5 to 7 lakhs and the standard deviation is 3 lakhs whereas average amount you spend in any normal +2 college in Kathmandu would be around 1 lakhs.
- You can take all A level exams at once or you can split it in your semesters. A level examination occur twice in a year in may/June and october/November and +2 exam occurs only one time in a year
So these are some of unorthodox difference that you will find difficult finding on Internet and it is completely based on my experience
